This means they may work hourly, daytime, overnight, or provide 24-hour live-in care, tailored to the unique needs of the family and the nurse.
Responsibilities
A maternity nurse’s role is comprehensive and tailored to ensure the well being of both baby and parents. Their typical duties include:
-
Establishing and supporting feeding routines, whether breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or expressing milk
-
Creating healthy and consistent sleeping patterns for the newborn
-
Advising on all aspects of baby care, including bathing, changing, and hygiene
-
Washing, sterilising, and maintaining feeding equipment such as bottles and pumps

Sleep trainer
A sleep trainer (or sleep consultant) is a specialist who helps families improve their baby’s or toddler’s sleep habits through gentle, structured routines.
They assess the child’s sleep environment, habits, and family routines, and create a personalised plan to encourage longer, healthier, and more independent sleep — always in a way that aligns with the family’s parenting style.
Common Tasks:
-
Assessing current sleep patterns and issues
-
Creating a personalised sleep plan
-
Establishing bedtime and nap routines
-
Supporting parents through sleep training methods
-
Advising on sleep environment, feeding schedules, and wake windows
-
Offering reassurance and guidance throughout the process
Support Options:
1. In-person support
The sleep trainer comes to your home to observe routines, implement the plan, and offer hands-on support, usually over one or several nights.
2. Virtual support
The sleep plan is delivered via email, with follow-up by phone, WhatsApp, or video call. The consultant guides and adjusts the plan remotely over a set period (usually 3–14 days).

Governess
A Nanny-Governess is a highly educated childcare professional who combines the nurturing care of a nanny with the educational focus of a governess. This dual role is ideal for families who value both emotional support and academic development within the home environment.
While a nanny primarily focuses on daily care and routines, a nanny-governess goes a step further—playing an active role in the intellectual, social, and cultural growth of the child. These professionals are often qualified in education, languages, or early childhood development and are particularly well suited for school-aged children.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Providing high-quality care while promoting manners, discipline, and independence
-
Supporting academic learning through tutoring, homework help, and educational play
-
Teaching languages, reading, writing, and numeracy as appropriate to the child’s level
-
Organising structured activities, outings, and cultural experiences
-
Liaising with schools and parents to ensure continuity in the child's education
-
Instilling strong values, etiquette, and confidence
-
A nanny-governess may work live-in or live-out, depending on the family’s preferences, and is especially popular in VIP or international households that prioritise a well-rounded, enriching upbringing for their children.
